Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Both her parents have both been Puerto Ricans. Her family was from Queens, New York. After she turned 10 years old, old the family moved into the Dominican Republic, where they would live for the next seven years. Zoe was able to establish an appreciation for dance while she was living in Dominican Republic. In the highly regarded ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy Zoe was taught ballet and various other dance styles. It was a fantastic way to exercise an energetic child. But it proved to also be a lucky start to her professional career. Zoe and her family emigrated back to America with Zoe at the age of 17.
