Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived to a musical family 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the daughter and cousin to the singing sensation Dionne. At the age of a small girl, Houston started performing professionally in her church's choir. She was a backing vocalist for Chaka Khosn's single from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mother. She then went on to join the backing vocals of Lou Rawls and Jermaine as well as her mom. Her work as the featured vocalist of New York funk group Material caught the eye of big record companies, like Arista who she signed in 1982 and was with them for the rest of her life with them. The debut Whitney Houston album was released in the year 1985. It was one of the best-selling albums by an artist. Songs like The Greatest Love of All, How Do I Know if You Give Love and the song Saving all My Love were all released from the album. The songs allowed Houston to reach the seven US top tens that surpassed even the top tens of The Beatles. The album came out in 1987 and sold 25 million copies across the globe. Its Whitney 1987 album, with Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as hits, helped build upon her success. The 1992 film The Bodyguard sealed her spot in the top 20 most-sellers of all-time. The film and her part in it was not popular, however the soundtrack and her rendition to Dolly's I Will Always Love You charted for several months on the charts and she sold over 44 million singles and albums all over the world. The same year that she welcomed her daughter Bobbi she married Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. Her drug addiction began in the middle of 1993 and by 1996, she had been a frequent user.
