Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. Parents named her Winona after her hometown. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Uria is Ryder's younger sister. Jubal, Sunyata and Sunyata are Ryder's half-siblings. At the age of seven, Ryder was just seven years old, her family relocated into Mendocino County California. They didn't have electricity. There was no television books were Ryder's only distraction to pass the time. Eventually, she became an avid reader. Ryder started taking acting classes at the American Conservatory Theatre when she turned 12 years old. Lucas was let go in 1986. Ryder, who was only 15, landed the role of a leading actress. Ryder was bullied at her high school. She thought that by becoming an actor her behaviour would be changed. However, the plan didn't pan out. Still she continued pursuing her goals. In 1988, it was when Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that was her breakthrough. Ryder continued to play successful roles in many movies. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated in the Academy Awards. One of them for her role as a character in The Age of Innocence.
